Costume Drama "Knygnesys" (eng. Book Smuggler) about Love for Homeland

2011 / 03 / 12

Lithuania was occuppied by the Tzar Russia in 19th century. The Russians were executing ruthless assimilation policy against the Lithuanian nation. Part of this activity was to ban Lithuanian literacy and promote Russian language.

Soon brave people organized opposition to support the Lithuanian culture by illegally bringing books in Lithuanian printing. These people were prosecuted by the regime as smugglers, but for the Lithuanians, they became heroes who helped to save the nation's identity.

The film tells a story about two men, Mazvydas and Jurgis, who meet in the forest accidentally. Both of them have different reasons for "smuggling", however Mazvydas' example inspires Jurgis to become a Lithuanian patriot in action, not words.

Titas Petrikis has composed music score for the film that was orchestrated by Tadas Šileika. Vilnius Music Amateur Orchestra conducted by Tadas Šileika recorded the music. Titas would like to thank all musicians who helped to bring this music to "live":
