2022 / 02 / 25

Intensive rehearsals for the new play "Tūla," based on the novel of the same name by the famous Lithuanian writer Jurgis Kunčinas, are currently underway at the Alytus City Theatre. Despite global upheavals, such as the coronavirus pandemic and the worrying situation in Ukraine, the theatre's creative team, led by director Albertas Vidžiūnas, infuses warmth, beauty, and goodness into their work, aiming to share these values with the audience.

In 2022, with Alytus becoming the Capital of Culture in Lithuania, this play becomes one of many events dedicated to commemorating J. Kunčinas's 75th birthday. "Tūla" is a vivid, mature, and tumultuous story, where the main themes are love, longing, and the passage of time. The play promises to be not only an echo of the past but also an ironic, unsentimental look at it.

The main role in the play is performed by the talented young actress Vaiva Ona Makūnaitė, whose performance promises to be memorable. Her portrayal of Tūla will be expressive and multifaceted – speaking, singing, dancing, creating a unique character.

The play's script was written by the well-known dramatist Herkus Kunčius, and the music is composed by one of the most talented contemporary Lithuanian composers, Titas Petrikis. Their creative synergy with director A. Vidžiūnas and the entire team promises an unparalleled theatre experience.

"Tūla" is not only a classic of literature but also a work relevant to today's youth, speaking about youth, love, and the search for oneself. The premiere of the play is scheduled for March 25 and April 27, inviting everyone to experience this unique creative journey.

The Alytus City Theatre continues to prove that art is an indomitable force capable of withstanding the tests of time and challenges, creating a meaningful and memorable cultural experience.
