The Play Purge (story by Sofi Oksanen) at the Kaunas State Drama

 Egle Mikulionyte
 Egle Mikulionyte as Aliide Truu
The Kaunas State Drama Theater opens this season with another premiere that invites the audience to take a look at very recent post-Soviet history intertwined with modern times. Sofie Oksanen's award winning story Purge translated by Aida Krilavičienė and adapted to the theater by Ausra Marija Sluckaite reveals the story of atrocious occupation events that ruined the lives of thousands of people. The main character of the play Aliide Truu was one of them. She carries a sin from her youth that destroyed her family. However one day the restless days are disturbed when a young girl, called Zara, arrives to Aliide's home. Zara is a victim of new generation evil, so called new Russians, whose methods of business are like those from past NKVD. Aliide is faced with her past, but she also has a chance to change her life. The question is if she has enough determination to do that.

The director of the play Jonas Jurasas compares this performance to music polyphony – when many voices of the characters have their own lines, however only together they make a complete picture. Two-hour play will contain almost eighty minutes of music and various atmospheres that will convey the mood of the performance. There are some compositions from the play below.
